This new photo editorial section asks the question, "What would happen if these legendary musicians, producers and engineers were starting out today and had a Mac?" All of these musicians made due with, worked around or invented themselves out of the limited recording technology they had to work with, but is that what helped shape them into the legends they became?
Does today's comparable ease of the recording process and new computer technology help make it possible to develop more legends like these greats, or is it keeping tomorrow's legends from emerging by limiting their challenges? If people like Les Paul, Tom Dowd, Quincy Jones, Norman Petty, Brian Wilson, Sun Ra, Chet Atkins and others had today's tools, would their recordings, music and productions be better or worse?
