An employee at an Apple store near Washington D.C. was shot and wounded Friday morning, police have confirmed. The victim, a 26-year-old woman, is currently at an area hospital recovering from a wound to the right shoulder. She is said to be in serious but stable condition.

Charlie Miller, a scientist specialized in network security identified a vulnerability in the iPhone SMS module . It could create an exploit by sending a specific SMS to an iPhone. One could in theory be able to run a script which could for example force the device to send its geo-positioning parameters, or to activate the microphone etc... scary, but still based on his claims. The scientist already contacted Apple, and will not unveil the details of the exploit taking advantage of this vulnerability before the Black Hat USA expo to take place in Las Vegas on August 2nd.

According to The Register quoting sources close to investment banking, Seagate might not be able to offer SSD models before end of 2010, or even 2011 due to issues in the development process. This information comes by surprise, as the company announced earlier it expected to release Pro-oriented models in 2010, however first samples should not arrive before the end of the year. Previous Seagate CEO was kicked out for not having seen the potential of SSD, and the new one seems to have problem to bring the company on track to offer such products to customers. During this time, other manufacturer such as Samsung, Intel or OCZ are gaining experience and market shares, securing technologies thanks to patents and developing already second generation of SSDs.
